Ferro Chrome HC/MC/LC

The main suppliers of Ferro Chrome are South Africa, China, Russia, and India.  Although almost half of the material comes from South Africa, the supply from China has been growing in recent years.  The main use of Ferro Chrome is in the production of stainless steel.  About 10% of the annual production is used in the foundry or refractory industries.

There are four different grades of Ferro Chrome:

  1. Charge Chrome, which is mainly produced in South Africa with a typical Chrome content of about 50% and Carbon content of up to 9%.
  2. Ferro Chrome, which is mainly produced in India, Russia, and China with a typical Chrome content of 60%-62% and a Carbon content of about 7-8%.  The Indian material typically has a higher Silicon content of 2.5%-3.5% while Russian and Chinese material has Si 1.5%.
  3. Low Carbon Ferro Chrome, which is mainly produced in South Africa, Russia, Kazakhstan and China.  The low Carbon content is of 0.05% – 0.15%. The Chinese material typically has a Carbon content of 0.10%.
  4. Ultra-Low Carbon Ferro Chrome, which, as its name suggests, has a Carbon content typically below those mentioned above, in the range of C 0.0025-0.005%.
